Eagle Creek, Columbia River Gorge
February 7, 2004

Wanting to follow in her little sister's footsteps, Jordan wanted to venture out to Eagle Creek for an overnight backpacking trip to test the waters.  We arrived at the trailhead with quite a bit of snow still on the trail and a large fence crossing it's entrance.  With minimal options, we hiked in the opposite direction and hoped for the best.

The trail climbed rapidly, proving difficult for this young explorer.  Climbing towards the Wauna Point viewpoint,  we continued on as Jordan gave up that this really was too much work.  Unlike her little sister, Jordan did not see all the wonders that were surrounding her; all the wonders of life.  The forest is so full of life, it, like the alpine mountains, let's you know how important nature is.

I was enjoying the few views as well as the time out with my youngster.  A feeling of melancholy came over me as I wondered if Jordan would ever be into the world out of doors.

As we cruised our way back to my rig, we stopped at the carious springs for chatting and snacking.  She may come around, she may not.  To each his own.
