Angels Rest,
Columbia River Gorge |
|
Unconvinced of what Bob was selling me about hiking in the gorge, I set out on my first gorge hike unaware of what hiking with an experienced partner could teach you. We started out as the trail climbed rapidly through the dense forest, making my unconditioned body sweat freely.
The diverse landscape of the ice dam-carved gorge gave me a feeling of splendor. Through the many forests and slides, the views made me forget of the effort that I was putting forth.
Even on this modest little hike, there were waterfalls to stop and gaze at.
Once at the top, 1600 feet above sea level, it was apparent what Bob was trying to teach me. Though this hike was only 2.3 miles from car to summit, it awarded my effort with amazing views that stretched for miles. I also learned of the beauty and splendor that is the Columbia River Gorge.
Alas an outdoor trip would not be complete without a woodland creature.
