Fire Trails,
Forest Park, Oregon |

What to do, I thought, scrounging through my gear closet on this New Year's Eve when Amber asked to "go do somethin'". Amber wanted something close, that had trees, possible wildlife, and of course, food afterwards. The only thing that came to my mind was Forest Park. Forest Park is 10 minutes away as we did not even hesitate. We grabbed the Piggyback, some gear, and sped off for the west hills.
You get a sense of freedom in the woods, outside of the concrete jungle you normally call home. We strolled thorugh the deep woods enjoying it's smells, sights, and sounds.
Only 30 minutes into the hike, Amber was hungry. Although we brought plenty of snacks and a hot thermos of hot cocoa, she wanted restaurant food of a specific "childish" quality. I could not resist, we headed back to the truck and raced into Portland to grab a bite at a local bagel shop.
