Trying to be a good step-daddy, I thought it be good for both, Jordan and I, to do a little hike, spending some quality time together. In fact, it has been over a year since we have done any hiking together. We geared up after some morning hot chocolate at the local Starbucks and drove out to the Toothrock Trailhead. The recent rains promised some scenic water falls at the Tanner Butte Trailhead, so that is where we were headed.
The hike was quick and Jordan appreciated the time alone with me as I did with her. We took various pictures as well as joked about silly things, things that we would never remember, things we don't really care about. What was important is remembering the feelings and emotions we felt while on our hike. Although Jordan will never be the backcountry girl that her sister is, she appreciates the closeness of personal relationships far deeper than of her younger sibling.
The waterfalls did prove beautiful as I had hopped. As we made our way back to the truck, completing 4.5 miles, the longest hike of her life. We followed up this day with lunch, still chatting about jokes that no one else would understand or even know what we were laughing about.
