Over the last few years, backpacking has made my life richer as well as more convoluted.

As I find that I need less and less material possessions to be happy, I am faced with decisions that I will take the time to ponder during my time on the PCT.  Backpacking has opened my eyes about things, that as a little boy, I never new existed; hence never appreciated.

As lame as that sounds, it is nevertheless important.  Through backpacking, friends and family, I see what most of the world cannot, trapped in the concrete jungle of modern society, blinded by "things" of materialistic value.  Being happy by the most simplest of things not made by man is an intoxicating feeling of freedom.  This is truly the beginning of the rest of my life, and I am heading out to learn what other past hikers of the PCT already know.  I do know now, what the quote "more is less" means.
