It is funny how children tend to selectively remember everything they hear. That selective memory got the best of me when Amber had reminded me of my mentioning berry picking a couple of weeks ago. As the weather was not on the side of me cleaning house, we hopped in the 4Runner and sped off to a local farm for a few hours of tasty freedom.
We sauntered through he store before Johnathan went on auto-pilot. The little market soon opened to expansive fields of the likes neither of the kids have ever seen.
As it was too early for corn, what we came to look for, we settled on blueberries and raspberries. While on the AV track to the field, we spotted a play structure just before a couple of goat that Johnny and Amber could pet. Johnny pet the animals before jumping up and yelling "bewwies!". Off we went with a cardboard flat in our hands.
We were sad to see the strawberry season was so short as Amber simply adores them. Johnny ran free, yelling at the bees and jumping whenever he felt the need. Amber looked diligently to see if there were any of the red berries left that someone may had forgotten. Soon at the blueberry patches, I showed Johnny which berries to look for; large, almost black, and sweet.
He tasted, spat and looked at many before yelling out "Daddy, fine un". He raced them over to the flat and hurriedly rushed back to the bush he was working over. We worked our way to the larger bushes deeper into the valley, but did not find too many, before deciding to try our luck with the raspberries. In contrast, the raspberries were plentiful, but harder for my lil man to reach.
The clouds were lifting which meant the sun was coming out in full force. We decided to head home, but a pit stop at the provided playground was required first.
Once home, we washed and munched and munched some more. We saved plenty for parfaits, which included yogurt and home-made whipped cream. It was a fun day, but both children expressed the need to return, especially when the corn arrives!
