Christmas with the Fam
Milwaukie, OR

December 25, 2007

This year, this blasted year, of so many ups and downs would have to be my first white Christmas in 34 of them.  Yesterday was chock-full of good times, including goofing off with a friend until midnight and spending time with my father.  I would expect today to hold the same kind of fun and adventure.  So with a packed schedule, I wished another close friend of mine, who lives far away, Merry Christmas and drove through an Oregon "blizzard" to my sister's house in Milwaukie.

Pop was already out playing Santa as I helped my brother-in-law haul in a mattress and box springs into my niece's room.  The snow was falling hard, for Oregon at 280 feet elevation, but refused to stick as it was 36 degrees out.  Still too cold to linger long in what I was wearing, I ducked back into the warm house to munch on snacks that my sister had created earlier.

While stuffing my face with olives, deviled eggs, various chocolates, and chips and dips, my Aunt arrived as well as my mother and our friend Bill.  With the gang all here and the bird fully cooked, we dug in.  Smiles were abundant and conversations started and ended with myself trying desperately to avoid any IT questions that were thrown into the mix of words.

Although I was already stuffed with appetizers, I managed to fill out a decent plate.  I think I ate more, so far today, than I have in the last week combined.  After eating, I waddled over to talk to my bro and catch up.  We had a lot to talk about as the hours passed by unnoticed.

Jon is a quite an artist when it comes to wood working and his latest projects were no exception.  The clock below, more detailed on his site, Time in Wood, was quite breathtaking.  Even the gears were laminated wood.   As I had a friend, still to say goodbye to, I had to leave sooner than I wanted.  The kids were coming over for the night and promised a fun end to a great Christmas.
